Muir Dam Path

Over the winter volunteers from the Thornhill Paths Group have been repairing stiles and strimming back overgrown areas along the route to make it safer and easier to negotiate. They are now looking for the path to be walked regularly to keep it open, so get your boots on!

The Muir Dam Path starts in the village behind the Church, follows the Cesintully Burn, passes through Nellie’s Glen and over Boquhapple Ridge to reach the dam. It is approximately 3km one way (6km there and back). There are lovely views on the way up and just think of the workout you’ll have going over the stiles!

The ground is rough and can be wet so stout footwear is advised. As always in the countryside please respect the farmers’ crops and keep dogs on leads when sheep or cows are around.

Paths Group Monthly Work Groups Resume

The Paths Group are restarting regular work groups on the 1st weekend of the month throughout the summer, to maintain and improve the paths around the village.

The first work groups are on 5th June at 11am and 6th June at 2pm.

Meet at the bottom of Gray’s Loan and bring stout shoes, thick gloves and maybe loppers, etc.

There will be a member of the Paths Group present.

For Health & Safety reasons, children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult please.

Bulky Uplift to restart

In News, Stirling Council

Stirling Council’s Special Uplift Service will resume from 17 May.

From 11 May, households will be able to request an uplift of bulky items of household waste online or by calling 01786 404040. They will receive a call back within 48 hours to confirm the collection date and to make the payment.

The special uplift service was suspended at Christmas due to the national Covid restrictions.

As the service has been unavailable for a number of months, we anticipate increased demand. Uplifts will restart from 17 May but bookings can be made from 11 May.

All booked items should be presented on the kerbside outside your property as waste crews will not enter a property to collect items.

Further details on items that can be uplifted, concessions and other key information can be found on the Council website.

Please note that if you or a member of your household have COVID-19 symptoms, you should not request an uplift. Households must wait 72 hours after a household is clear from isolating prior to making a request.

If you have requested an uplift and you or anyone within the household develop COVID-19 symptoms, please telephone 01786 404040 to rearrange your request.

Dear Thornhill & Blairdrummond Community Council

I refer to your enquiry regarding visibility issues at the junction of Kippen Road and Main Street, Thornhill and the suggestion you made to extend the existing double yellow lines.

I can advise that I have visited the location and understand that sightlines could be improved by extending the double yellow lines by approximately 10 metres, however this would remove valuable parking facilities for residents of the local area.

I would therefore be obliged if you can confirm local community support for this proposal prior to me commencing the statutory process to extend them.

Good morning Elaine,

We will continue to carry out speed checks on the Main Street. Unfortunately the hand held radar that we use is currently away for calibration at the moment but once it is back – we will ensure that Thornhill is one of the first areas we go to.

We also put our “pop-up” police officer in various locations within the Trossachs and Teith area to act as a reminder to drivers to check their speed.

With regards to parking on the pavement – if the vehicle is causing an obstruction, this should be reported to Police via 101 at the time of the obstruction.
